What Dimarzio guitar pickup should I get?
On my birthday I’ll be getting an Ibanez RG350DX. I play an extremely wide variety of music! The guitar has 2 humbuckers in a bridge and neck position and 1 single coil in the middle. Which pickups would suit me?
I’d wait until you get the guitar and play it for a while before you start thinking about replacement pickups. You might find you like the ones in it already, and even if you don’t, that will give you an idea what you like to change about them (ie. more output, cleaner tone, more highs, mids, or lows). Then you can go to the DiMarzio web site (if you’re already stuck on that brand) and look through the pickup descriptions to see what fits your particular wants (which won’t be the same as anyone else’s). I could recommend pickups I really like (and they’re Seymour Duncan, not DiMarzio), but your taste would be different than mine anyway. Lace makes some really great pickups you might want to consider as well. I’d recommend passive pickups though.

How do I fill a pickup hole in a National metal body guitar?
I have an old National guitar that has a single coil sized pickup slot cut into the top by the neck. I would like to fill this in and touch up the finish. any ideas how to proceed?
I must point out that this guitar is painted yellow i.e. polychrome so that a fill-in/paint touchup might look ok
I don’t see how you can make it invisible….so the next obvious solution is to mount a pickup there. The other way to go is to mount a chrome (or nickel plated) plate over the hole. If there are screw holes from a pickup mount, use them to attach the plate. Make sure it’s solid so it doesn’t rattle. I can’t think offhand of a good source of a plate…I think you’ll have to get creative. Hey, another idea…you could get a piece of copper or brass and have your name engraved on it…then mount this over the hole. It’ll look customized! Any store that sells trophies should be able to set you up.
