Marshall Class5 Guitar Combo Amplifier (5 Watts, 1×10 in.)
The Marshall Class5 Guitar Combo Amplifier (5 Watts, 1×10 in.) features a design created in the legendary ‘Bluesbreaker’ style. The Marshall Class5 sports a top-loaded, ‘Plexi-esque’ panel containing treble, volume, middle and bass. It’s a simple feature, but one that is the Class5′s secret weapon. What you get, is genuine class A tone that is regarded by many guitarists as one of the purest designs. One that provides that smooth second harmonic distortion.
Thanks to the relatively low weight of this amp along with the headphone output, the Marshall Class5 performs equally well as an at home recording amplifier, or a silent practice amp. You will find the tonal character to be superior to anything you would find in any other so called “practice amp.”
A dynamic tube tone in a simple no-nonsense package is what this amplifier is all about. The Class5 pushes 5 true Class A watts through a 10 inch Celestion G10F-15 speaker by way of its dual 12AX7 preamp tubes, and a single EL84 power amp tube. This is an amplifier that has been designed for one thing, and that is to deliver pure Class A power.
This amp is manufactured at Marshall headquarters in the heart of the UK. Each Class5 combo amp has been constructed by some of the most experienced hands in the business. It contains specially selected components and precision craftsmanship coupled with solid construction. The Class5 provides the reliability and durability you have come to expect from Marshall.
Marshall Class5 Guitar Combo Amplifier (5 Watts, 1×10 in.) Reviews and Opinions:
The Class5 from Marshall wasn’t designed with a lot of features; this is typical of many tube amps in this price range though. It does have a speaker out and headphone out in addition to a 3 band EQ, and is fairly light for its size meaning you won’t end up breaking your back after moving the amp. It is a solidly built unit and is well designed.
Many reviewers commented on the fact that there aren’t many controls, or they are very basic. But for the price, many people said it was worth every penny. Other reviewers have stated that it is the best small tube amp for the money that they have seen in a long time. It has the classic Marshall sound, and can be crunchy and loud and there is no mistaking the tone, although it isn’t limited to just that.
Another reviewer said that the reason they bought this amp was because it was a British made Marshall. They said it appears to be made very well so far. Plus this reviewer also owns a Haze 40 combo amp, and although they like the amp, it wasn’t made in the UK. This reviewer felt that the UK Marshalls may be better, but are definitely more expensive.
The amp delivers pure Marshall tube tone, and just like its bigger brother, it distorts when you turn it up. Although this is a very simple amp, some of the best sounding amps, don’t have many features at all. It was mentioned by more than a few people though that they would have liked it if this amp had a master volume control.
Although it isn’t perfect, there is definitely a certain appeal that this amp has. You can view some of the videos on YouTube and take a look at what it has to offer. For the asking price, you would simply be hard pressed to find a better value elsewhere. One person mentioned that it is of unmistakable Marshall lineage, with just a touch of Vox AC-15 mixed in. If you’re looking for a Plexi tone in 5 watts, you probably won’t be happy with this. If you’re looking for a great tone by itself, this amp will deliver.
The Marshall Class5 Guitar Combo Amplifier is an incredible value. It’s packed full of great tone and is just as good if not better than many hand wired boutique amps. A few parts of the amplifier have been constructed with some cheaper materials, but they had to cut costs somewhere to offer it at the price they did.

What’s a good 100 watt amp for Metal Guitar playing?
Im looking to buy a new amp for performances, I just want a combo amp for now cause the places im playing at aren’t to big. Im looking for an amp that has a decent clean channel and really good distortion channel, I want heavy sounding palm mutes if possible with enough distortion to be able to pinch harmonic. I’m looking somewhere around $250-$350 price range but it could be a little over or under, and I was also wonder if the fender frontman would be a decent choice.
